UVM and other large organizations utilize a WPA2 Enterprise wireless network, granting enhanced security methods, additional controls, and a number of other options critical to UVM’s wireless infrastructure. Unfortunately, game consoles and media streaming devices are not designed to be compatible with WiFi using WPA2 Enterprise network security, as these type of devices are made for common consumer network configurations like those on your standard home wireless router.

As an alternative, Ethernet equipped devices can connect to the internet using the data port located in your residential hall. All you need to do is complete the Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline. To complete the form, you will need the Wired MAC address of the your device. See below for instructions on finding your MAC address.

Finding your MAC Address in Network Settings
The Network screen is the place you come to for everything that involves your console’s ability to connect to Xbox Live, play multiplayer games, and troubleshoot general network performance issues. To get to the Network screen:
- Press the Xbox button on your gamepad to open the guide.
- Select Settings.
- Select All Settings.
- Select Network.
- Select Network settings.
The Network screen is divided into three columns. This page describes network settings options that are available from each of these columns.

New Xbox One – Finding your MAC Address
If your Xbox One is fresh out of the box and has never connected to the internet before, it will try to run a system update as soon as it is turned on. This process requires an internet connection and cannot be skipped. You are unable to view your MAC address during this process, so cannot register your Xbox One for an internet connection.
Heres the workaround:
- Proceed through System Startup. It will fail because you do not have an internet connection.
- Select the “Fix It” option to attempt to diagnose the connection issue.
- You will be brought to a screen prompting you to manually set up the connection. This screen lists both your wireless and wired MAC address
- Record the Wired MAC address and include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.

- Press the Guide button on your controller.
- Go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
- Select Network Settings from the list of System Settings.
- Choose Wired Network.
- Select ConfigureNetwork from the list of Network Settings.
- Go to the Additional Settings tab, and then select Advanced Settings.
- On the Advanced Settings page, you will see Wired MAC Address. It may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00. Now that you’ve located your Wired MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.

- Turn on your Playstation 4 without any disk in the drive and wait for the menu to pop up.
- Navigate to the Settings icon.
- Select the System icon under the Settings menu.
- Select System Information.
- Here you will see your MAC address under MAC Address (LAN Cable). It may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00.Now that you’ve located your Wired MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.

- Turn on your Playstation 3 without any disk in the drive.
- Navigate to the Settings icon (located on the far left), and then press the X button.
- Select Network Settings with the X button.
- Select Settings and Connection Status List with the X button.

You will need to have a USB to Ethernet adapter to connect your Nintendo Switch to UVM’s wired network.

- Select “System Settings” from the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down through the menu and select “Internet.”
- The Nintendo Switch console’s MAC address will be listed under “Wired MAC Address.”

You will need to have a USB to Ethernet adapter to connect your Wii U to UVM’s wired network.
- On your Wii U GamePad, go to the Wii U Menu and select System Settings.
- Choose the Internet option.
- Select View MAC Address. The MAC address will be listed under LAN Adapter MAC Address. It may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00-00-00-00-00-00.Now that you’ve located your Wired MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.
Finding your MAC Address in Console Information
You will need to have a USB to Ethernet adapter to connect your Wii to UVM’s wired network.
- From the home screen, select the Wii button in the lower left hand corner.
- Select Wii Settings.
- Press the right arrow to navigate to the Wii System Settings 2, then select the Internet option.
- Select the Console Information option.
- The MAC address will be listed under LAN Adapter MAC Address. It may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00-00-00-00-00-00. Now that you’ve located your MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.

- On this screen, you should be able to see the MAC address listed as “Ethernet Address” or “Hardware Address.” A MAC address may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00. Finding your MAC Address on the Roku Device
- Ensure that you have a compatible Roku player with an Ethernet port. The Roku 3 is the most recent Roku that offers this feature.
- Locate your Roku’s wired MAC address. This can be found on either the side or bottom of your player, or on the box you received it in. If you are unable to locate the MAC address that way, open the home screen on your Roku from your TV and then go to Settings > Network. The MAC address needed to register your Roku will be listed as either Ethernet Address or Wired MAC Address. The MAC address may have letters and/or numbers and will be in the format 00:00:00:00:00:00.
Now that you’ve located your Wired MAC address, please include it in your Network Registration Form at go.uvm.edu/playonline.

Visit the Blu-Ray player manufacturer’s support website and search for your Blu-Ray player using its model number. Search for instructions to for finding your device’s MAC address, then record it.

Check your device manual or manufacturer, or google the product for instructions on locating your Ethernet Wired MAC address.
